From classic rock to classical guitar to a classic ghost story, as usual, the South Bay arts scene offers a little something for everyone next week.
San Jose Rocks Inaugural Event
The South Bay was famed for first for its agriculture and then for its technology, but the 1960s here saw a boom in music. The San Jose Rocks Hall of Fame will celebrate some of the South Bay bands that rose to fame during that time in a special inaugural induction ceremony headlined by Jefferson Starship (formerly Jefferson Airplane), which was founded by South Bay musicians.
Other bands featured at the event include Syndicate of Sound, the Count Five, and the New Arrivals. John Tristao, of the bands People and Creedence Clearwater Revisited, will also perform with the Groove Kings. Los Gatos' Doug Curtis, founder of Curtis Electromusic Specialties, a pioneer of synthesizer and audio technology, will be inducted into the San Jose Rocks Hall of Fame. The event includes a benefit concert, dinner, live and silent auctions and awards ceremony. Proceeds benefit History San Jose.
Oct. 20, 5:30 p.m. $100 per person. History San Jose, 1650 Senter Road, San Jose, 408.287.2290 or www.historysanjose.org.
